A Place to Gather and Reflect

The Thinking Log is a mixed genre writing project that combines elements of essay and fiction to create a unique blend of narrative driven philosophical reflection. Drawing heavily on autobiography, the Thinking Log centers place and history as they shape our experiences and we, in turn, change the shape of places and history.

Free subscriptions get you the weekly “round up” newsletter, at least one new post every other week, a rotating selection from the archives, and limited previews of subscription content.

Why A Paid Subscription?

Paid subscriptions will help fund future writing projects! Think of subscribers as patrons of a journalistic art. Part of my hope for this Substack is that it will allow me to experiment in a format that is not quite a book-length endeavor, but is also a little more substantial than a typical essay or short story you might read in any of the great online literary journals.

The projects I’ll be debuting here will be more like serials that form discrete wholes. A series will be ongoing for several weeks or months, but will ultimately come to a close and a new project taken up. If you want, you can subscribe for one month, access the archive, read one or two of the projects, then go back to the unpaid subscription when you’ve read what interests you! Just like renting a book.

These projects will often involve travel and research funds to deliver the highest quality writing and innovation in both form and content. Your subscription helps realize these projects and sustains a thriving arts and writing community!
